Post-production

For post-production, I took control of making sure everybody was on task and doing everything to a high standard. I was the main editor for the project and I edited most of it after it was filmed, this was very helpful as it means the workload was not too big at the end and I could concentrate on getting the written work done and pitching the idea. I delegated tasks to members of the group with deadlines so that it could be added to the edit. This included light streaks, soundtracks and titles. Everyone had a job which made it all get done quicker and easier to all ut together at the end because everyone knew what they were doing. I kept on checking everyone was on task and on time for their job and also to see how they were doing and if they needed any help.
We have had some problems with the soundtrack, I tried recording my own version of "The Man Who Can't Be Moved" by The Script, however it was not seen to be appropriate because it still sounded like the original song, we then looked at copy-right free songs, until finally we decided to make it on soundtrack which Stefan did.
Another issue we solved was the titles, as some of them didn't stand out as much as we would have liked, so we decided to put a small transparent bar of colour (The one for the linney company) underneath the text so that you can see it easier.

Filming

We have been filming for the advert recently and have filmed scenes 2, half of scene 3 and 4. I directed Scene 4, the boardroom scene, for this job I needed to take control of the actors and make sure everyone is ready to film. I worked close with cameraman to make sure we get the best shots and to make sure everything I wanted was going into the scene. I think I did quite well because we got all the shots we needed and to a high standard and everything went as planned and in a good time limit. I worked with the actors to make sure they knew how to act and how to feel, as well as explaining the setting and feel of the mood for this situation. It was essential that the mood changed from the "bad" part to the "good" to show good Linney's was and by this I had to make sure the actors knew what they were doing.

Management Diary

This week we had our deadline for pre-production so I was managing everyone in my quarter to get everything emailed to the master account so that everyone had the necessary research that was conducted for their folders and that everyone understood it and the outcomes from that. As well as doing this I was helping organise filming at Linny's headquarters for the filming of the Lorry scene. This included getting a Lorry and driver that could act for the scene as we needed someone in Linney's uniform who looked professional for the whole concept to work. Mr Henry was very happy to sort this out for us and suggested that we should come and look round for the ideal location as well as giving us a tour round. We are hoping to get down tomorrow in that time we will make the neccessary risk assessments and assess the area to see if it is suitable for filming.

03-11-09

Since last time I wrote I have developed many new skills as I have been updating and improving my pre-production folder. I have developed my synopsis and premise writing and I feel they have further improved on past synopsis I have produced. The primary research as was managing has come out very well, and me and a few of the team conducting the research have come up with very reliable results and then analysed that to have the information we need to go forward with the idea. I feel I have managed the primary research very well as everyone got what they needed done, on time and at a very high standard. The vox pops, interviewing people around the college about our ideas and how they receive ideas, went particularly well and we got the answers we were looking for. The questions were very in depth and the team, including Scott and I managed to get very good answers out of the people we interviewed. However if I were to do this again I think I would have tried to get more interviews with more important people, ie. directors, managers etc. as this is the market we are trying to aim at. Saying that, however, the results were still important to what we needed. My skills were developed alot by doing this as it was the first time I ever did it, so it was a good experience for the future. If I find time I will try and put up a sample of a vox pop so you can see what type of questions and answers we got.

The questionnaires also came back with very good results, Damian and I went around giving out questionnaires, in terms of relevance for the audience this was very important to discover what the audience thinks on a quantitative and big scale. We were also more able to contact business men and get in contact with the people we were aiming more at. Again I think if I were going to do this again I would have more businessmen because although we had a few the majority were students.
Overall however this gave a very good idea of the audience and what they thought of the idea and we also analysed each question.

Idea = Sorted! 15-10-09

We have finally agreed on an idea, this idea is very simple, but very effective using a range of techniques including after effects and other good camera skills. This week we started pre-production properly and we are working very efficient and fast, this week I was managing the Primary research, planning initially what we were going to do and then allocating tasks to members of the team. This included drawing up questionnaires, organising focus groups and other things related to this. As well as managing I also helped with the Primary research as well as creating a synopsis and premise for the idea, to start the pre-production rolling.

Yesterday I also did some test shots and further research into the After Effects effects (seen above). This is quite a hard thing to do, it involves lots of presets and extensive knowledge in After effects to achieve however, by watching tutorials I have come to know how to make this effect and I also passed this information onto the rest of the team so that we can all work on it at the same time on different PC's because it is quite a time consuming thing. The actual effect is of a coloured light stream coming round things in a film. You can see a similar effect here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q67EKPLpi2M However we will be using it in a completely different way and we stumbled across this after we had thought of the idea.
Next blog I will hopefully post some of the stuff I have been playing around with on after effects when I am on my Mac.

On another point our quick meeting with Mr. Henry from Linney's went really well on Wednesday. I explained our idea, showing him the synopsis and premise I wrote as well as Stefan's treatment and Scott's storyboards. It went really well and after we quickly pitched the idea he really liked it and wanted to go ahead with it. He also confirmed that we would be able to use their printers to print a design of ours for a prop to make it look professional and real that Linney's have printed it themselves.

06-10-09 Brainstorm

Yesturday we had a brainstorm of ideas. My role in the team was to come up with ideas and then dwell into them deeper as well as looking into other peoples ideas to see if they work. I had to critcally evaluate each idea, taking it apart and seeing visually if it would work and also seeing if the idea met the design brief. To try and get more ideas flowing in the morning we decided to split into to groups to see if we could both come up with ideas, by splitting up different ideas would bounce each other and then hopefully more ideas would be on the table when the both groups came back.

My group thought of how Connect links all the businesses of Linney together so we went a scale bigger and thought of the world and how LinneyConnect connects the world to make the service and opportunities better. So we had an idea of a picture of world and a dot moves around the world in different locations with phrases of how this connects to LinneyConnect. One strong point that Mr. Henry mentioned is that they can give the customers many different situations of getting what they want. For example if someone wants to print something they could get it done in the UK and lots of contact with the printing place and have it done very quickly, or they can have it done in China for very cheap however it would take along time to make and thier eould be little contact. So we wanted to involve this in our idea, so we thought it would be good to add subtitles or a voice over, at these points. After all the dots were joint it made a big "L" then the camera zooms out and there is LinneyConnect being printed out.

First Meeting with Mr. Henry. 28/09/09

Today we met with our client Mr Henry for the first time, It went quite well and we got lots of information that we otherwise unclear. It could have gone better because we did not get the chance to introduce our selfs because he sat down and immediately started talking. There for we could not offer him a drink or biscuits even though they were on the table already.

However having said all that the overall meeting went well, now we are in the process of thinking of and picking ideas. Firstly I came up with the idea of using the colour scheme on parts of thier website where it is a lot of different colour lines together and then zooming into each section of the colour and it shows a different part of linneys and how that connects to Linney Connect. We then elaborated on this idea including lines of people. Another good idea was brought up about a rocking table with coffee going everywhere then someone comes in and folds up a Linney Connect card and fixes the rocking. This could b made into a number of adverts and everyone a different colour, therefore each one can be related back to Linney Connect.
